5 Reasons Why You Should Use Your DepEd Email


It was in 2012 when the Department of Education rolled out the DepEd Email to streamline communications within the organization and to provide a platform in integrating technology in the classroom. With the huge number of workforce, DepEd, in partnership with Google, asked a private company to develop a website that will help DepEd's personnel from the Central Office down to the schools in acquiring their DepEd Email.

To support this objective, a national memorandum was released on December 26, 2012 entitled DepEd Memorandum No. 227 Series of 2012 or the Guidelines on the Use of the DepEd Email Service. This memorandum can be accessed here

For DepEd Employees, they can claim their account here in this website: 
https://depedverify.appspot.com

Claimed accounts would have a format like this: 
firstname.lastname@deped.gov.ph

For classroom teachers, they may be skeptical why they should have a separate email account than their personal one. Here's a rundown of the benefits of having a DepEd email: 

1. Professional Email Address
Yes, we already have our personal email account. Either Gmail or Yahoo, these are all the same. But, to identify you as a DepEd employee when transacting or communicating online, you may opt to use your DepEd email. Besides, it does not hurt to have one. 

2. DepEd Newletters
From time to time, the DepEd Central Office releases Newsletters that contain updates from all aspect within the organization. Only DepEd accounts receive these newsletters. 

3. Get Access to G Suite for Education (formerly Google Apps for Education)
In partnership with Google, DepEd is privileged to have given access to different communications and collaboration tools that can help teachers in integrating technology in the classroom. G Suite is not just Search and Gmail, there is a lot more. Watch the video below:

4. Get UNLIMITED cloud storage
Gone are the days that you have to send yourself an email with your files attached because with Google Drive, you have an unlimited cloud storage where you can back-up and save your files so that you can access it anywhere and anytime. You don't have to worry with the limited storage of your flash drives, the viruses in public computers and unavailability of your files when you need it the most. 

5. It is required to access different DepEd Information Systems
DepEd is on track in introducing different Information Systems and they are encouraging teachers to access all of it using their DepEd Email.

  6. I still do not know the reason/s why the account should be deactivated when not used for some period of time.

    This scheme runs counter to the anti-red tape law as a matter of policy in government service.
